The 5th, 6th and 8th grade OTE girls teams and 7th and 8th grade OTE boys teams all won championships at the Grayslake Hoops Fest last weekend. For the 7th grade boys and the 8th grade girls, it was their third tournament championship this year. The 8th grade girls continued their remarkable run, winning their 16th tournament championship together in four years. For the 6th grade girls, it was the third time in four tournaments this year that they reached the final game and their second championship. Congratulations!

7-8th grade girls: 11 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
5-6th grade girls: 12:00 p.m.-1:00 pm (talented 4th graders also welcome)
$25 registration fee; please arrive 15 minutes early to register. Forms available on the Registration Forms link.
For those who attended our first tryout session, we recommend a 2nd tryout, but don’t require it and there is no charge to attend this session.

Summer Basketball Skills Camp 2009 for 5-8 grade-school boys and girls begins June 10-11 and runs through August.
Incoming 5th and 6th grade girls: Wednesdays 7-8:30 p.m.
Incoming 7th and 8th grade girls: Wednesdays 8:30 to 10 p.m.
Starting June 10 at Oriole Park, 5420 N. Olcott, Chicago
Incoming 5th and 6th grade boys: Thursdays 7-8:30 p.m.
Incoming 7th and 8th grade boys: Thursdays 8:30-10 p.m.
Starting June 11 at Redeemer Church gym, 1006 Gillick, Park Ridge
$25 per night or $200 summer pass for 11 nights
Instruction from Over the Edge travel team coaches.

4th GRADE BASKETBALL SKILLS CAMP Mondays 5-6:30 p.m. in March (starting March 9th) and April at Redeemer Church gym, 1006 Gillick, Park Ridge. For 4th grade girls, but also accepting 3rd and 5th graders. $20 per night. Instruction from Over the Edge travel team coaches. These sessions will emphasize all the basic skills a player will need to begin preparing for high school-level basketball: Proper ballhandling and shooting techniques, footwork, defensive fundamentals and concepts, and lots of drills that players can use on their own to improve.

 We are proud to announce that two of the OTE coaches, Keith Miniscalco and Greg Kot, have just written the definitive book on youth basketball for beginner coaches, published by Human Kinetics, the world's largest sports book publisher. It is a guide for both coaches and parents that explains the fundamentals of the game in a fun, readable manner. It's available at bookstores everywhere. We are thrilled to announce that 11 OTE graduates from last year's 8th grade team made their high school basketball team. 6 earned a spot on their Freshman team, 3 were placed on their JV team and 2 made Varsity! Congratulations, Girls!

Tom Morgan, the director of the Grayslake tournament which was held on March 9-11, 2007 has awarded the Over The Edge organization their Sportsmanship Award. The award is normally given to a single team, but it was awarded to the entire OTE organization because all of the teams exemplified excellent sportsmanship. The letter of recognition can be accessed here (pdf file).
As OTE's mission statement states: OTE believes the best players are those who not only excel individually but who make each of their teammates a better player. They are student-athletes who are respectful of their parents, coaches, opponents and teammates. Congratulations to all of our players for earning this distinguished award!

OTE is pleased to announce that 16 of its original members have made their respective high school basketball teams. Of the 16 Freshman, 2 made their Varsity team, 3 made their Sophomore teams and 11 made their Freshman teams!
