Over the Edge is a basketball program for motivated grade-school boys and girls. It is designed to prepare them to compete at a high school level by the time they complete the program. Through regular practices, games and tournaments against top-level competition, we emphasize basketball fundamentals on offense and defense.
The program has been operating for seven years and its principals and staff members have coached or played basketball on the high school or college level. We never forget that basketball is a great game and it should be fun. But we also believe that fun is a byproduct of excellence on and off the court.
Our philosophy is simple: We are “over the edge” on fundamentals. Ball handling, proper shooting technique, sound footwork, transition basketball, man-to-man defense and disciplined team play are the cornerstones of basketball, and our program.
We believe the best players are those who not only excel individually but who make each of their teammates a better player. They are student-athletes who are respectful of their parents, coaches, opponents and teammates. They also respect the game, and what is required to play the game well. They learn not only how to play well with the ball, but without it. They develop an awareness that basketball is not just about being a fine player, but an even better teammate.
There is coaching continuity, so that the skills that are taught at each practice are reinforced and refined each year at each level. In addition, we will show the players countless drills and practice techniques they can apply on their own. Playing time is based on merit; the players who work the hardest at practice and on their own to develop their skills will be the players who earn the most court time during games.
